Prepare to change the world! The BC SPCA Education Department is looking for an energetic, resourceful and highly organized individual to fill the full-time position of Education Coordinator that will oversee youth humane education programming in the Greater Vancouver area.

Primary responsibilities include coordinating the Society’s summer day camp program (hosted in eight BC SPCA shelter locations); organizing and delivering youth workshops; and coordinating other humane education outreach programs.

We are looking for a creative individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a demonstrated background working with youth in an educational or recreation setting. The right person is positive and outgoing; relates well with youth; and can motivate youth to create a more humane, compassionate world for animals.

You have the ability to work within a team environment but also able to work independently. This position requires access to a vehicle as some travel is involved. The position also entails a flexible schedule to accommodate some weekend and evening programming.

The coordinator will maintain an office split between our Vancouver and Surrey locations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal knowledge and post-secondary education in animal welfare, animal sciences, education or related disciplines.

Temporary full-time (1.0 fte) effective 04 Jan 10 until 30 June 10, initial assignment to Grade 6/7 French Immersion.  Applicants must have Bachelor of Education (elementary or equivalent; demonstrated fluency in both English and French in both the receptive and expressive modes, verbal and written; be supportive of bilingual education; recent and successful experience delivering educational programs in a French Immersion program; may be asked to complete an oral and written French language screen to determine levels of language proficiency.
Applicants must also have membership in the BC College of Teachers and recent successful teaching experience and/or training at the elementary level in a French Immersion program.
